The Beatles, Star Wars and Others Inspire the Featured Music in Lakeland Civic Band’s Concert December 3

The Lakeland Civic Band will delight audiences with their fall concert, “Epics and Icons,” playing a variety of instantly recognizable and always uplifting songs. The concert is scheduled for Sunday, December 3rd at 4:00 p.m., in the Dr. Wayne L. Rodehorst Performing Arts Center, in the D-Building on the college’s main campus at 7700 Clocktower Drive, Kirtland, 44094.

Tickets are $7.00 for adults, $6.00 for seniors and $2.00 for students. Tickets can be purchased at the college’s box office on the date of the concert or in advance by calling 440.525.7134 or online through Lakeland Community College/Arts.

The band will be honoring luminaries of contemporary music with segments dedicated to the Beatles and John Williams, and will include the festive music of Robert Jager’s “Esprit de Corps” in the program. The band will also pay tribute to classic American songs from John Philip Sousa, and to the British folk tunes of Percy A. Grainger. The concert will finish with a joyful set of holiday favorites, including a spotlight on the best from Irving Berlin.

The Lakeland Civic Band

The Lakeland Civic Band, under the direction of Daniel D. Crain, provides an opportunity for instrumentalists from the area to perform band literature of the highest quality. Its membership is drawn from Lakeland students, talented high school players, school music teachers and directors, and community musicians who are selected by audition.

In addition to concerts at Lakeland each fall and spring, the band has performed at area high schools and universities; national, state and regional conferences and conventions; Severance Hall and the Chautauqua Institute. The band has invited a variety of illustrious guest conductors and artists and has featured several of its members as soloists. The Lakeland Civic Band received the Sudler Silver Scroll Award presented by the Sousa Foundation in recognition of musical excellence and service to the community.

About the Civic Music Programs

Lakeland Community College provides community members the opportunity to express and advance their talents by performing in four music groups: the Lakeland Civic Band, the Lakeland Civic Chorus, the Lakeland Civic Jazz Orchestra and the Lakeland Civic Orchestra. Additionally, the college offers talented high school students Jazz Impact, an all-star high school music group.
