Forensic Footprints

Students in Mr. Dave Bronson’s Forensic Science classes recently conducted a lab where they used cooking spray and cocoa powder to identify shoe prints. First the bottom of the “suspect” shoe was sprayed with cooking spray, then pressed down onto white paper. Students then used a small paintbrush to apply a small amount of cocoa powder to the wet area with a dabbing motion, blow away excess powder – and viola – a footprint! Students were able to use their samples to identify a particular shoe from a small partial print.

Pictured In Cover Photo: Junior Matt C. shows the footprint he made during a lab in Forensic Science class. Students had to use cocoa power and cooking spray to identify shoe prints.
