Congratulations to Chardon Schools Resource Officer (SRO) Mike Shaw on his recent promotion to Sergeant with the Chardon Police Department.  Sgt. Shaw is a seasoned police officer who has stood out as SRO for Chardon Schools. In addition to his SRO duties, Shaw has been an SRO Basic Academy instructor for the Ohio School Resource Officer Association (OSROA), and has been a consultant to agencies considering SRO programs across the State of Ohio. Sgt. Shaw’s participation with the Frank Hall Foundation and State Representatives Patterson & LaTourette was instrumental in the passage of HB 318, which defined the role and training necessary for the position of School Resource Officer, and provides funding for the training of School Resource Officers in Ohio. Chardon Local Schools and the Chardon Police Department will work collaboratively to assign the next SRO at Chardon. The goal is for Sgt. Shaw and the SRO to cross train together to learn the various tasks of this position.  Sgt. Shaw will remain in the SRO assignment until a suitable successor is chosen to replace him. Best of luck to Sergeant Shaw is his new role with the Chardon Police Department.
