If you’ve traveled State Route 44 approaching the City of Chardon, Ohio from the south, most likely you have noticed the mountain of sand, marking a mining location for Fairmount Santrol.
The company began in 1978 when Mr. William Conway purchased Walter C. Best, Inc., a small silica sand producer located in Chardon, and named it Best Sand. These small beginnings, and the relation that developed between Mr. Conway and Mr. Chuck Fowler, led to the growth and development of Fairmount Santrol as an innovative industry leader capable of supplying many of the world’s biggest industries.
