Donations for Akron Family in Need and Maggie’s Place

This holiday season, a group of local women are spearheading efforts to spread holiday cheer and good fortune to those in need by collecting donations of clothing, toys, and much-needed supplies for a women’s shelter and a family who received care for their child at a local hospital. The group’s efforts are being organized by Becky Klein, using avenues such as social media and via an online moms group. This is the fourth year the group has organized efforts around helping local families and organizations during the holiday season.

Maggie’s Place is a nonprofit providing a home for pregnant women and mothers in need in the Cleveland area. The organization also has a Phoenix, AZ location. The home provides a stable and nurturing environment for struggling mothers and mothers-to-be. The organization is named after Saint Mary Magdalene, as someone who made mistakes but turned her life around when she met Christ. The home provides a variety of support, from counseling and mentoring, maternity and infant supplies, childbirth classes, job training, and assistance with obtaining health insurance, daycare subsidies, and other economical, spiritual, and developmental assistance.

The group is collecting much-needed items from the home’s wish list including linens, grooming items, batteries, and infant-related needs such as diapers and wipes, clothing and boots, pacifiers, breastfeeding supplies, nonperishable food and books. They are also organizing a Christmas meal to be held at the center on Monday, December 2.

Akron Children’s Hospital has provided crucial, family-centered care for infants and children in the community since their foundation in 1890. Offering a warm and friendly environment to all patients, families and visitors, the hospital has been a great source of support for many of the moms in the group who are looking to give back to such a great institution. The group has been matched, with the assistance of the hospital, with a family who has a child who has received much-needed care from Akron Children’s, and they are collecting donations of wish list items and gift cards for the family’s four children.
