The Geauga Arts Network Group (GANG) will be featuring artist Jean Balas at its October meeting. Ms Balas creates works in a variety of media including watercolor, pastels, oil, acrylics, and pencil sketching. Her art has been featured in various local art shows. One of her pastels, “Lions at Dusk,” is on display at the Mentor Municipal Center.
During the meeting, the artist will be displaying samples of her work while discussing her artistic technique and history as an artist. This informal, educational program will be held Tuesday, October 17th, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Heinen’s Café, 402 Center St. in Chardon. It is free and open to the public.
Ms Balas developed her artistic skills at a young age by closely observing her accomplished brother, Edward J. Pollard, at work. After being widowed in 1973, she devoted herself earnestly to her art, applying all of the art techniques she had learned since her early childhood. One of her specialties is creating chalk pastels of pets and other beloved animals for her art clientele.
The Geauga Arts Network Group is an ad hoc group whose mission is to promote communication, collaboration, and cooperation across artistic disciplines for artists living and/or working in Geauga County. For further information, contact Nicky Bucur at 216-240-1501.
