For 10 years, Geauga Park District’s Maple Town Tune Traders have shared a variety of music the fourth Thursday of each month at The West Woods Nature Center.
Tune Traders has evolved into a fine showcase of music – blues, country, classical, vintage pop, Celtic, traditional and modern folk music, and even a bit of rock – with participants playing, singing or simply enjoying as audience, all genres, instruments and skill levels welcome. A piano is also provided.
For more accomplished singers and musicians, “open mic” performances are held 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. with sign-up on a first come, first served basis. A snack break is then followed by a round-robin jam session till 10:00 p.m.
For novice musicians, this format provides great chances to watch and learn, play along and hone skills with a supportive audience as you work up to a more polished level. For student musicians preparing for an upcoming recital or performance, Tune Traders also provides a gentle, encouraging audience, with applause and praise guaranteed from people who celebrate young musicianship.
Audience members, meanwhile, just enjoy a relaxing evening of well-rendered music. Admission is free, the setting is informal, the chairs are comfortable, snacks (contributions welcome) are delicious, and humor abounds.
Registration is not required to participate as a musician or audience member. The West Woods Nature Center is located at 9465 Kinsman Road (Route 87) in Russell Township.
