Experience “guided listening” one evening in the park, exploring how weather is portrayed in classical music by various composers.
Nature in Music: Weather is planned for Friday, December 15th, 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at The West Woods.
Naturalist Linda Gilbert earned her master’s degree in Music from Cleveland State University and will be your host this evening, playing recordings of classical music and explaining how aspects of the music portray some extra-musical, meteorological scenes. Also, find out what wind machines and thunder sheets are and do.
“Guided listening is a technique that one of my music professors used for teaching a little bit about the history of the music, what to listen for in the music, how to listen for it, and pointing these things out as they occur,” Gilbert said. “Our list of composers for this installment of Nature in Music will be Beethoven, Chopin, Strauss and others.”
Registration is not required for this program geared toward adults. The West Woods Nature Center is located at 9465 Kinsman Road (Route 87) in Russell Township, and is wheelchair/stroller accessible. Call 440-286-9516 with questions.
