New voices will soon fill the halls of Cardinal Intermediate School with the expansion of Family Pride of Northeast Ohio, Inc. On Wednesday, October 11th, the Cardinal Board of Education voted unanimously to accept a lease agreement with the group for the remainder of the 2017-18 school year. “We are very excited about partnering with the Cardinal School District and being in the Intermediate School building,” says Executive Director Angela Daugherty. “It seems like a natural next step to better serve our current clients and families as well as increase availability and access to counseling and support services to the Middlefield community.”
Family Pride will lease the front office of the building and the classroom directly across the hall from it. “Family Pride already provides important services to many students and families in our community, it makes sense for them to expand their offerings into east Geauga County,” says Cardinal Schools Superintendent Dr. Scott J. Hunt. “When I spoke with Ms. Daugherty about her needs, our Intermediate building seemed like a natural fit. We’re happy to have Family Pride on campus.” Family Pride executives have plans to make minor modifications to the space to better suit their needs, however, both areas will remain functionable as classrooms should the need arise for the district. They hope to be in before the end of the year.
Family Pride is currently serving more than 1,100 children, youth and adults throughout Northeast Ohio, including many here in Geauga County. Daugherty says, “We believe that when families are strong, communities are strong. Family Pride continues to strive to meet the growing needs of families and community with supportive, person and family-centered behavioral health care services.” This past year, Family Pride expanded to offer trauma-focused programming with a variety of options, including increasing the capacity of school-based support services.
In addition to Family Pride, Hunt is looking to utilize other spaces in the Intermediate building for the Cardinal Business Collaborative. “The concept is to partner with our local businesses to provide space in the CIS building that our businesses can utilize for large group training, professional development, job fairs, and online coursework for training and college credit,” Hunt says. “We actually have a direct pipeline for a specific group of students who wish to enter a career out of high school. What a great opportunity this would be for us to bring businesses to the schools and students to businesses.”
