Anyone who has children or grandchildren knows how expensive it is to get them ready to begin the school year. Between school supplies, clothing, and shoes, it is likely parents will spend several hundred dollars (or more) per child. Celebrating our twelfth year, Geauga County Job and Family Services is pleased to sponsor, Help Me Learn Day, a fun and worthwhile school supply distribution program that assists low income children and foster children in Geauga County. All the school supplies collected for this program come from community donations, so your support is vital.

Two separate Help Me Learn Days are planned. The first will take place at Geauga Co. JFS on August 10th and the second at Chagrin Falls Park Community Center on August 14th. Children and their parents are invited to Geauga JFS or Chagrin Falls Park where volunteers will help the children “shop” for their school supplies. Families must pre-register and demonstrate a financial need to qualify.

In addition to offering school supplies, Geauga Co. JFS will again partner with Morning Star Friends Church, La Barberia Institute of Hair, and Marci Mondello-King of Marci’s Hair on the Square to provide school clothing and haircuts for children. The Back to School Clothes Closet and Cuts for Kids will provide eligible families with an opportunity to “shop” for gently used clothes for the upcoming school year. La Barberia Institute of Hair and stylists from Marci’s Hair on the Square will provide haircuts. Both events will be held on August 10th (Help Me Learn Day) at Morning Star Friends Church, 12550 Ravenna Rd., Chardon about 1 mile from Geauga JFS. Vouchers from JFS are required to participate.

If you would like more information about donating, registering, or volunteering to set up or pass out school supplies, please feel free to contact Sara Shininger, at 440-285-9141, ext. 1263. Monetary donations are used to purchase needed supplies. Checks may be made payable to: Special Services of Geauga Co. and mailed to Geauga Co. Job and Family Services, 12480 Ravenwood Dr. Chardon, OH 44024.
