Geauga Park District Accepting Entries for 23rd Annual Nature Writing Contest

It’s getting dark, and now pitch black. I wave at the water. The water waves back.

This excerpt of “Water” by Charlotte Jons, age 11, who placed first in the child poetry category of last year’s competition, reminds us of not only the connection we can all feel with Nature, but also how powerful it can be to capture those sensations in words.

Calling all writers who have ever been inspired by Nature! Geauga Park District is now accepting entries into its 23rd Annual Nature Writing Contest – Nature-inspired poetry and prose by creative writers of any age.

Download your contest application at the new Geauga Park District under News & Updates, or pick one up at The West Woods Nature Center, Big Creek Park’s Meyer Center or your favorite in-county library. Entries must be received by Tuesday, May 1st, to qualify. Age categories in both poetry and prose are adult (age 18+), adolescent (ages 12-17) and child (ages 11 and under).

Winners receive cash prizes; honors during the 27th Annual Nature Arts Festival on Sunday, August 5th, at Big Creek Park; publication in a winner chapbook and on the new Geauga Park District; and naming in Geauga Park District’s summer newsletter, reaching more than 42,000 Geauga households. Good luck!
