Monarchs & Meadow Insects

  • Sunday, September 17th, 12:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • Orchard Hills Park, Lodge – Drop in anytime to net and tag Monarch butterflies, play an exciting “life-sized board game” dramatizing the hazards of Monarch migration, and catch a variety of butterflies, grasshoppers and other insects calling the meadow home. Nets provided or bring your own. Sun protection, socks, hat and long pants recommended. Meadow insect overview at 12:30 p.m.; netting in field surrounding shelter 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Partially wheelchair/stroller accessible. Nature’s Not to Be Missed.

Geauga Walkers

  • Tuesday, September 19th, 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
  • Orchard Hills Park – Hikes for active seniors 1 to 1 ½ miles long. Naturalist led. Call Geauga Senior Center for full schedule, 440-279-2137. Not wheelchair/stroller accessible.

Chagrin River Bird Quest Birding Challenge

  • Friday, September 22nd, 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
  • The West Woods, Nature Center – Calling all bird enthusiasts! This is a 24-hour birding marathon. To participate, get a team together and register with the Audubon Society of Greater Cleveland at Cleveland Audubon. Then come into the nature center or the Novak Education Center in Aurora for team check-in and final registration, where you can also pick up maps, checklists and T-shirts and talk strategy with teammates and naturalists. All materials and activities are free. Refreshments provided. Partially wheelchair/stroller accessible. Nature’s Not to Be Missed.

Fall Flower Foray

  • Saturday, September 23rd, 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
  • Orchard Hills Park, Pondside Shelter – After reclaiming the old golf course, Orchard Hills is ablaze with color! Take a leisurely stroll to see what’s blooming and hear folklore associated with these plants. Wheelchair/stroller accessible. Nature’s Not to Be Missed.

Chagrin River Bird Quest Celebration

  • Saturday, September 23rd, 4:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
  • The West Woods – End the 24-hour Chagrin River Bird Quest with a celebration! Turn in your checklists for judging, then enjoy hearty refreshments, awards and door prizes. Details at Cleveland Audubon. Wheelchair/stroller accessible.

Timbertots: Tremendous Trees! (Ages 3-5 w/adult)

  • Saturday, September 23rd, 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • Beartown Lakes Reservation, North Point – Explore the forest for a fun tree-themed time with Nora the Explorer! Registration required. Partially wheelchair/stroller accessible.

Autumn Splendor Corks & Canvas

  • Saturday, September 23rd, 6:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
  • The West Woods, Affelder House – Fee: $35.00 – Join artist Linda Merchant to paint a lovely autumn scene while enjoying wine and snacks with friends. No experience necessary. Fee: $35.00 includes materials and refreshments. Ages 21+. Registration required. Wheelchair/stroller accessible.

Reptile Day

  • Sunday, September 24th, 12:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • The West Woods – From snakes to lizards, reptiles are amazing! Stop by to meet a wide variety of these incredible creatures brought in by members of the Northern Ohio Association of Herpetologists (NOAH). Wheelchair/stroller accessible.

Timbertots: Tremendous Trees! (Ages 3-5 w/adult)

  • Tuesday, September 26th, 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
  • Big Creek Park, Aspen Grove – Explore the forest for a fun tree-themed time with Nora the Explorer! Registration required. Partially wheelchair/stroller accessible.

West Woods Wednesdays Farm Market

  • Wednesday, September 27th, 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
  • The West Woods – Purchase locally made/grown items at The West Woods for the final time this year! Visit bit.ly/gpdspecial for details. Wheelchair/stroller accessible.

Maple Town Tune Traders

  • Thursday, September 28th, 7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
  • The West Woods – All genres, instruments and skill levels welcome. Come to play, sing or simply enjoy as audience. Snacks to share welcome. Wheelchair/stroller accessible.

Scout Day: Boy Scout Insect Study Merit Badge

  • Saturday, September 30th, 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
  • Frohring Meadows, Katydid Shelter – Boy Scouts, work on requirements # 2, 3, 4, 8, 10, 11 and 12 toward your Insect Study Merit Badge. If you wish to finish this badge at the program, you must complete the remaining requirements # 1, 5, 6, 7 and 13 and email your work to Holly Sauder at [email protected] . A merit badge counselor will be on site. Bring your own merit badge worksheets and Blue Card. Registration required. Partially wheelchair/stroller accessible.

Scout Day: Brownie Girl Scouts Bugs Badge

  • Saturday, September 30th, 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
  • Frohring Meadows, Katydid Shelter – Brownies, enjoy the splendors of fall and the Monarch migration season while working on requirements # 1, 3, 4 and 5 toward your Brownie Bugs Badge. Registration required. Not wheelchair/stroller accessible.

Howling with Coyotes!

  • Saturday, September 30th, 7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
  • Frohring Meadows, Katydid Shelter – Learn amazing facts about coyotes and hike out to two survey locations to broadcast real coyote recordings into the night with hopes of hearing return calls! Registration required. Partially wheelchair/stroller accessible. Nature’s Not to Be Missed.
