Geauga Growth Partnership (GGP) is pleased to announce United Way Services of Geauga County as the 2017 recipient of the Geauga Growth Partnership Frank Samuel Distinguished Service Award, which will be presented at the GGP Annual Partnership Meeting on Wednesday, June 21, 7:30 a.m. at the Notre Dame Education Center. The GGP Annual Meeting is free and registration is now open at GGP Annual Meeting.

Inaugurated in 2013, the Frank Samuel award recognizes prolonged service and outstanding achievement by a GGP member or organization, who through relentless determination, diligence and dedication, has made significant contributions to enhance the value, quality, effectiveness and stature of the Geauga Growth Partnership and embodies the following:

  1. Demonstrated community service and support both personally and organizationally.
  2. Evident investment in economic development in Geauga County
  3. Recognized advocate for the County
  4. Commitment to leadership excellence and development of human capital
  5. Major impactful accomplishments and results
  6. Reputation for the generosity, transparency and a critical thinker
  7. A strong business acumen with a collaborative leadership style

United Way Services of Geauga County, under the leadership of Executive Director Kimm Leininger, has been an invaluable asset to Geauga County and steadfast partner with Geauga Growth Partnership (GGP).

United Way Services of Geauga has advanced the objectives of community impact initiatives “through the development of collaborative groups in Education, Income and Health who are working together to create positive long-term change.” In collaboration with Geauga Growth Partnership, they have built two key initiatives designed to help Geauga businesses and their workforce to succeed.

The [email protected] Program, formed in collaboration with GGP, Catholic Charities Community Services and Geauga Credit Union, helps employees get to work, stay focused at work and advance in the workplace by helping to remove barriers that inhibit success. Catholic Charities Community Services of Geauga County’s staff connects employees to helpful resources and low-interest loans through the Geauga Credit Union, Inc.

Since its inception in July of 2015 more than 2,000 employees at Geauga County businesses have had access to this program. More than 200 employees have been assisted with issues in their personal lives and over 160 short term loans have been processed through the Credit Union to help bridge a financial gap for these employees.

Bridges2Work is another collaborative program initiated through an United Way of Geauga County partnership with GGP, Geauga County ODJFS, Kent State – Geauga, Geauga County Department on Aging, and GMHA. Bridges2Work is designed to help under-skilled residents gain the much needed skills necessary to gain successful and meaningful employment. In November 2016 a class of five students graduated from Kent State Geauga Campus’ STNA (State Tested Nursing Assistant) class. Another STNA class will be starting this June at Kent State Geauga. Bridges2Work will be expanding to other careers as well in the future.

“We are very pleased to honor such a great organization in our community for initiating these wonderful programs that are helping our companies grow in Geauga County,” said GGP President Tracy Jemison.

“The community outreach of United Way Services of Geauga is the embodiment of all that the Frank Samuel Distinguished Service Award represents,” says Jemison. “They are collaborators, connectors, and consistently strive to improve conditions for Geauga County residents and businesses.”

Also on the agenda at GGP’s Annual Partnership Meeting is Keynote Speaker Dr. Joel Elvery, Economist with the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland. Dr. Elvery will speak to the national and regional economic outlook.

GGP would like to thank the following sponsors, for supporting the Annual Partnership Meeting: GOLD SPONSORS KeyBank and University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center, SILVER SPONSORS Geauga Savings Bank, Honest Scales Recycling LLC, The Middlefield Banking Company, Sheoga Hardwood Flooring & Paneling; BRONZE SPONSORS Geauga Credit Union, The Frenchie Consulting Group.
