Geauga Park District’s Senior Days have been re-branded as Elderberries: Seniors Ripe for Adventure! – and three installments coming up this winter provide lots of education, storytelling and discovery for the pickin’.
Registration is required at 440-286-9516 or Geauga Park District for any of the following Elderberries programs, co-presented by Geauga Park District, the Geauga Department on Aging and University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center.
Wildlife in Winter
Thursday, January 18th, 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., The West Woods Nature Center – While we’re cozied up in our homes, there’s high drama going on out there in the woods, wetlands and fields, a struggle for survival against winter, predators and starvation. This indoor presentation will be based on observation and stories written in the snow like pages in a book. Refreshments provided; fully wheelchair accessible.
Thursday, February 15th, 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., The West Woods Nature Center – Join us for a look back at whopping winter weather events of the past with an illustrated presentation intended to touch off a blizzard of audience memories – and come share yours! Refreshments provided; fully wheelchair accessible.
A Sweet Treat from the Trees
Thursday, March 15th, 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Swine Creek Reservation – Discover the secrets of pure Geauga Gold…maple syrup! We’ll enjoy lunch in the lodge at 11:30 a.m., then take a hands-on look at the sugarbush and sugar house to learn about the maple sugaring process. Some portions of this program will not be wheelchair accessible.
Did you know that naturalists also lead Geauga Walkers hikes of active seniors throughout Geauga Park District year-round, usually a couple Tuesdays a month from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.? Hikes this season are: January 2nd at Sunnybrook Preserve, January 16th at The West Woods, January 30 at Burton Wetlands Nature Preserve, February 13th at Big Creek Park, February 27th at Beartown Lakes Reservation, March 13th at Swine Creek Reservation, and March 27th at Walter C. Best Wildlife Preserve.
Registration is not required for Geauga Walkers hikes, which are not wheelchair accessible; we just ask that you please call 440-279-0880 if the temperature is below 20 to ensure that the hike is still a go.
