Ovations go to . . . 

Kenston’s Center Stage was honored by the Geauga Council for Arts and Culture at the 16th annual Ovation Awards for area high school musicals. Area directors reviewed two other school’s shows and recognized the best elements in acting, music, technical theater, and a category of their choosing.

Footloose was honored with the following awards: Technical Achievement, Sam Kiley for his work on lighting; Vocal Award, Andrea Rengers for her vocal performance as Rusty; Acting Award to Jacob Spencer for his portrayal of Willard and “Wild Card” Award to Kaitlin McGrath for her vocal performance as Vi.

Senior Evan Frank was recognized as the MVP of the show for his work in the crew of the musicals and dramatic performances as well as set construction. Katelyn Giebner was awarded a $500 Geauga Council for Arts and Culture Scholarship for her work on as the props master throughout her high school career.

Advanced Placement America Government students in Ms. Anissa Smith’s class recently held a Skype session with students from the Darrick Wood School in Orpington, London. Students asked each other about the government systems and how they work as well as exploring the differences in the educational systems. The teachers used Skype to engage students in a discussion about today’s political culture.
