5th & 6th Graders Participate in Math Competition
15 Cardinal Middle School 5th and 6th graders gave up their free time on a Saturday morning February 18th to represent their school in the Greater Cleveland Council of Teachers of Mathematics competition held at Garfield Schools in Garrettsville. Teams of four contestants practiced twice a week for a month leading up to the competition. Events included problem solving, mental math, and the construction of figures. “Students found that along with math knowledge and reasoning, teams needed dedication, communication and cooperation to do well,” says Cardinal Gifted Coordinator Melody Barber. “We are proud of their efforts!” Competitors included 5th graders Allison B., Emma G., Jamie M., Logan S., Lillian K., Liliana M., Anna L., & Ryan N. 6th graders were Tim M., Jenna O., Nathan L., Audrey A., Owen V., Ava G., & Ana F. Thank you Mathletes for representing us well!
First Graders Complete Research Projects
1st graders have been working hard on research projects for the last month! Every student had to pick an animal and then conducted their own research picking books from the library and using the Internet.
Students then created a book all about their animal, presenting facts with the help of a visual aide such as a poster, toy, or diorama. There’s a lot of fantastic work here – great job everyone!

Congratulations to the following CMS students on being selected as Paw Pride winners for the week of February 20th: Caleb M., Juliane R., Trinity P., Sabrina C., Abigail M., Avery K., Gabby D., & Briana D. Way to go everyone!
