Operators of the chalet on the sledding hill at Punderson State Park add authentic Belgian Waffles and a vintage and handmade market to the list of pancake breakfasts and events happening during the last weekend in March.
On Sunday, March 26th, the Sno Chalet, a small café that operates the sport chalet building at Punderson State Park from November through March, will host a vintage and handmade market highlighting a collective of the best local artisans and vintage dealers set up in the chalet to offer their creative work and interesting finds. They are calling this event: Market in the Woods – Maple Sugaring Market and are hoping to interest the countless visitors that come to Geauga County looking for maple sugaring tours and pancake breakfasts. The market includes several local maple producers who will provide syrup samples, information about their sugaring processes and of course, maple products for sale. The highlight of the event are the authentic Belgian and specialty waffles that are served at the Sno Chalet, not just for the market, but throughout the sledding season. These waffles, straight from Belgium, are not your ordinary waffles. The dough is filled with pearl sugars that caramelize as they cook which produces a firmer, crispy, yet flaky, waffle that is like nothing you have ever tried. Besides the maple syrup, these waffles can be topped with strawberries, maple glaze, strawberries and even bacon. You may want to swing by the event just for brunch. These Belgian waffles are the new alternative to the pancake breakfasts tradition offered around the county throughout March.
Owner of the Sno Chalet, Kelly Pierce said “The waffles on our menu are the same ones that you would buy on the ski slopes in Vermont. Our love for winter activities and local maple syrup inspired us to offer these amazing waffles to the winter sport enthusiasts using the park that are looking to warm up inside the chalet.” Other activities planned for the event besides the shopping and waffles are marshmallow roasting and s’more making over the campfire, coffee roasting by Rising Star Coffee Roasters, giant yard games, and interactive craft stations. However, the real adventure starts when you set off to explore the beauty of the state park. The new boardwalk takes you around the lake near the manor house and the views and connection to nature are unmatched.
Why not put the Market in the Woods on the to do list for this Sunday, March 26th? The market will be open from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. There is plenty of parking and admission is free.
