The Geauga Arts Network Group (GANG) will be welcoming back Dave Cvelbar, wood artisan, to its June meeting on June 19th, 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Heinen’s Café, 402 Center St. in Chardon. This educational event is free and open to the public. No reservations are necessary.
Dave Cvelbar creates functional artworks using wooden materials in their natural state. Some of his works include chairs, benches and log beds, all made from unprocessed tree sections. He will often adorn his pieces with attractive, unusual natural objects such as elk antlers. His other works include one-of-a-kind rustic picture frames, antler-based slab end tables, and other items of furniture.
The common thread in all his work is a profound fascination with and love of nature. Aside from that, he says that his ideas just seem to come out of the blue. He is also always happy to accept commissions. Besides bringing the spirit of the outdoors into the home, he has designed and built numerous outdoor structures, including several bridges at the Holden Arboretum.
Based in Munson, he has been a Geauga resident for over 25 years. Examples of his work can be seen at Rustic Forest. He will be bringing photographs and sample pieces of his work, and will explain some of his techniques and sources of inspiration.
The Geauga Arts Network Group is an ad hoc group whose mission is to promote communication, collaboration, and cooperation across artistic disciplines for artists living and/or working in Geauga County. For further information, contact Nicky Bucur at 216-240-1501.
