Kay is NOT just another insurance agent! At the core of her choice to become an insurance agent is her genuine and determined desire to help others. “When I started to look for a post college career, I began to look for opportunities that allowed me to own my own business and also be in an industry where I knew I would be able to help people,” she shared with me. “Since I also have a deep down terror of anything needles or blood, I knew nursing or anything medical was out of the question! So I began to look at other services that are there for people when they need them the most, which led me to insurance.”
“Insurance sparked my interest the most because it’s just about the only product out there that no one wants or thinks they need until that awful moment when they find out they do. I knew that I wanted to be there for people in those moments when a person loses their car – and their only transportation to work – or loses their home, or even loses a loved one. I knew that I wanted to be there for people in those moments when their life is turned upside down and be able to make it right again for them. I can never heal the emotional or physical wounds, but I can be there to help the financial burden that a loss can cause on a family.”
The very recent devastation of tropical storm Sandy is a prime example. “While most insurance companies were just starting their day, our agency had already been at work for a few hours contacting clients that had damage to their homes, asking what we could do for them. I even had a contractor working exclusively for me that day who was running from home to home assessing the damage, doing emergency tree removals where necessary. We had a system going here, where within 20 minutes of a customer filing a claim with the company, we could have a contractor there (if necessary or asked for by the client), a claims adjuster there within the same day, and ultimately their home repaired and their claim paid out within a matter of days. Those are the moments I am glad I am in this business; to be able to have that impact on people’s lives and provide that level of service to make their lives right again.”

When I asked Kay if there was any type of insurance her agency does not provide, she clearly stated, “No! Need to insure your home? Absolutely, not a problem. Want to insure your pianist’s hands for a million bucks? Give me a little bit of time and I’ll find a way to insure that as well! After all, if you can dream it, I can find a way to protect it.” They do have their own specialties as well. “I personally, as the agent, specialize in Commercial (or business), Life, Home, and Auto Insurance,” says Kay, “while my staff are both trained and specialize in Auto, Home, and Life insurance.”
Growing up in a farming family has given Kay a keen insight into the meaning of the word “budget”. Penny pinching was a way of life. She truly understands the financial stresses families struggle with and has been able to offer affordable options for many who believed having the security insurance can provide was only a dream. “I have many examples of a client who came in on a budget who only wanted auto insurance and believed that was all that they could afford. However, through bundling, discounts, etc. there were many instances that I’ve had clients end up with not only auto insurance, but also a renter’s insurance policy, and a life insurance policy – all for the same price as it would have been had they only had the auto insurance policy. So if you’re on a budget, still ask your agent what your options are. After all, it costs nothing to get a quote, and you never know what the end result may be.”

Regarding auto insurance, remember – you get what you pay for! Cheap policies = cheap coverage. Kay reminds us, “You want to make sure you have coverage that will actually protect you and cover a complete loss in the event of an accident. Again, everyone is on a budget, but imagine your budget with 25% of your weekly pay deducted to cover a law suit from an auto accident you caused that you didn’t have enough insurance to cover all the cost of.
