Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella in Youth Musical at Geauga Theater

“Once Upon A Time” is the Geauga Lyric Theater Guild’s version of “buy one, get one free.” These two musicals, combined into one production, will be featured August 2 and 3 at 7:30 p.m. and August 4 at 2:00 p.m. at the Geauga Theater as the culmination of GLTG’s youth musical workshops for this summer.

“Once Upon A Dream” (Cinderella) and “The 100 Year Snooze” (Sleeping Beauty) are both written by Dave and Jean Perry (Shawnee Press). “Double the music, double parts, double the fun!” quips instructor/director Julie Douglass. Joining Douglass in working with the cast of 37 youngsters ages 7-12 in the six week program, are Maureen Dempsey (producer), Diana Frankhauser (assistant), Mayim Hamblen (music director), and interns Brianna Fowle, Chris Jerme, Liz Derus, Emily Crtalic, and Grant Strlich-Waybright.

“Many kids are back for their 3rd, 4th, even 5th year. Others have never been on stage before, so it is a challenge to provide learning opportunities for such a diverse group,” states Douglass.

Following “Once Upon a Time” will be the youth drama “Secret Garden” on August 9 and 10.

Participants are involved in various aspects of the live production, including helping with set design, props, publicity posters, and designing the program cover and cast t-shirt. All performances are open to the public. Tickets are reserved and available through the GLTG Box office open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdays 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. or online. Prices are seniors/students $5.00; adults $8.00.
