Jazz up your weekend at The Lakeland Jazz Festival, the oldest jazz festival in the State of Ohio, as it celebrates its 48th year! In celebration of Women’s History Month, the headliner is the all-female group, the Carol Welsman Trio (Saturday, March 21, 8 p.m.).
Welsman, on piano and vocals, is an international artist who has toured the world performing in multiple languages. She has become one of Canada’s finest vocalists and pianists and has received numerous JUNO Award nominations from the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.
Joining her to form the trio is Brandi Disterheft, a highly-acclaimed acoustic bass player and vocalist, and Anne Drummond, one of the leading flute players in jazz today. As a special treat, the trio will hold a pre-concert discussion for ticket holders from 7-7:45 p.m. hosted by 90.3 WCPN radio host John Simna.
The Lakeland Civic Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of Dave Sterner, will combine with the Cleveland State University Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of John Perrine, for a Big Band Evening Extravaganza (Friday, March 20, 8 p.m.)
