FREE Education Course: NAMI Family-to-Family to Start February 2nd

NAMI Family-to-Family is a free educational program for family, significant others and friends of people living with mental illness. According to a landmark study published in a current issue of “Psychiatric Services”, this program significantly improves the coping and problem-solving abilities of the people closest to an individual living with a mental health condition. NAMI Family-to-Family not only provides critical information and strategies for taking care of the person you love, but you’ll also find out that you’re not alone. Recovery is a journey, and there is hope.

Family-to-Family is a 12-week (approx. 2 hr. per week) course taught by state-trained instructors, who have family members living with mental illness. This course discusses the clinical treatments of the major illnesses and teaches knowledge and skills that family members need to cope more effectively. This course will touch on the personal realm of emotional understanding and healing as well as the social realm of empowerment and action.  Topics covered: understanding the diagnosis; medications and self-care; empathy; and advocacy. For more information: visit NAMI Geauga County Family-to-Family.

The next course will begin February 2 from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. for a 12-week period. Call Elizabeth Johnson at 440-286-6264 or email her at ejohnson@namigeauga.org to register. Classes fill fast, so register early!
