Count the Birds: Great Backyard Bird Count Opportunities at Two Geauga Parks!

Maybe you’ve always wanted to help a scientific cause. Maybe you’re passionate about doing your part toward the greater good in Nature. Or maybe you just enjoy spending time with the birds.

Become an official Citizen Scientist by joining us this February for the Great Backyard Bird Count, a worldwide count coordinated by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society. For more information, Great Backyard Bird Count.

Geauga Park District’s counting kicks off at Swine Creek Reservation’s lodge on Friday, February 17th, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and includes a cup of hot chocolate and a toasty fireplace for your efforts. The West Woods Nature Center then picks up the rest of the weekend: Friday through Sunday, February 17th through 19th, all three days 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Bring your camera to enhance your fun – you never know when you’ll get that magical shot that can be entered into the 2017 Great Backyard Bird Count Photo Contest!

In addition to its wall of giant windows always bustling with hungry birds and other wildlife, this location’s hands-on exhibitry, art displays, live critters and Treetops Nature Store make The West Woods Nature Center a great place to visit any cold winter day. The facility, open daily 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., is fully wheelchair/stroller accessible. Please call 440-286-9516 with questions.
