Geauga County, Our Forests and Wetlands are Under Attack! Get the Tools You Need to Make a Difference for Local Wildlife at the Geauga Park District’s Invasive Plant Workshop

Garlic mustard, canary grass, purple loosestrife, multiflora rose and bush honeysuckle sound harmless enough – maybe even decorative. But these alien invaders, introduced for erosion control or landscaping, are out-competing our native plant species, and local wildlife that rely on these native plants for survival are suffering.

Join Geauga Park District on Saturday, July 22nd, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at The West Woods for an Invasive Plant Workshop that will arm you with the education you need to enter the front lines with our Natural Resource Management Department.

Joel Firem, an NRM land steward, will begin the workshop a Powerpoint presentation on the worst offenders. Then take a hike through this beautiful park to spot some of the more common invasive plants and see first-hand how Joel battles them head-on.

Registration is required for this free workshop, co-presented with the Native Plant Society of Northeast Ohio, at Geauga Park District or 440-286-9516.
