Vote open to name new park property, the former Wicked Woods Golf Course
We want YOU to weigh in on the name of the newest Geauga Park District property, formerly known as Wicked Woods Golf Course, in Burton and Newbury townships!
Please cast your vote before Monday, March 25th, at .
All three options – Veterans Memorial Woods, Veterans Legacy Woods or Veterans Tribute Woods – recognize the property as a park honoring Geauga County veterans, said Geauga Park District Executive Director John Oros.
“As a veteran myself, I’m proud to be leading the charge to name and plan for our first ever park honoring our veterans,” Oros said. “The many freedoms we enjoy in this great country, including the creation of public parks, are largely due to the sacrifices of our military heroes. I hope you’ll join us in helping name our first Geauga park to serve as a lasting legacy to these heroes.”
Located at 14085 Ravenna Road near the corner of Routes 44 and 87, these 180 acres were purchased for $1.5 million in November 2018. They protect the west branch of the Cuyahoga River and features streams and blocks of mature forest. Amphibians live along the river, freshwater mussels live in the stream, a diversity of native wildflowers live along the shore, and coldwater habitat, fairly uncommon in Ohio, here is home to a number of unique species of fish and insects that rely on cold water to live.
