Geauga Park District Now Accepting Entries into its 24th Annual Nature Writing Contest

My final destination lies across the river. Without a bridge in sight, I’m going to wade across it, and I’ve never yet made it without falling at least once.

This excerpt of “River” by Nora Vinson, age 17, who placed first in the adolescent prose category of last year’s competition, reminds us of not only the connection we can all feel with Nature, but also how powerful it can be to capture those sensations in words.

Calling all writers who have ever been inspired by Nature! Geauga Park District is now accepting entries into its 24th Annual Nature Writing Contest – Nature-inspired poetry and prose by creative writers of any age.

Download your contest application at www.geaugaparkdistrict.org under News & Updates, or pick one up at The West Woods Nature Center, Big Creek Park’s Meyer Center or your favorite in-county library. Entries must be received by Wednesday, May 1st, to qualify. Age categories in both poetry and prose are adult (age 18+), adolescent (ages 12-17) and child (ages 11 and under).

Winners receive cash prizes; honors during the 28th Annual Nature Arts Festival on Sunday, August 4th, at Big Creek Park; publication in a winner chapbook and on the new www.geaugaparkdistrict.org; and naming in Geauga Park District’s summer newsletter, reaching more than 42,000 Geauga households. Good luck!
