SUMMARY:Rockability Holiday Concert
DESCRIPTION:RockAbility\, an adaptive\, integrated music project for musicians with developmental disabilities\, will be performing at 7 p.m. Saturday\, December 10th at Berkshire High School Auditorium (14155 Claridon-Troy Road / Burton\, Ohio 44021). \n \nThe performance is free\, but the group is accepting donations at the door to support the program. RockAbility welcomes musicians with disabilities into performance-based musical projects. Participants have the opportunity to play and perform with mentor musicians who are actively performing and recording in various genres of groups throughout NorthEast Ohio. RockAbility was formed in January of 2022 and has performed in open-mic nights\, local jam sessions\, fundraising and special events. The group performs as a small ensemble or in its entirety 8-10 times per year. The December performance is their first holiday show and will feature an appearance by Horvitz YouthAbility of JFSA Cleveland. The first half of their show will feature favorite songs RockAbility has honed over the course of the year. \n \nProbable selections include covers of well-known artists including Marshall Tucker Band\, Barenaked Ladies\, Roy Orbison\, Elton John\, Bob Marley and more. An intermission will allow attendees to have “RockAbility” temporary tattoos applied (free)\, meet local visual artists with disabilities and view their works\, and purchase RockAbility T-shirts. The second half of the performance will feature popular and traditional holiday music including Christmas carols and Hanukkah songs. The audience will be invited to participate and sing-along. \n \nWhat is RockAbility? \nRockAbility is a performance-based musical project which integrates musicians with disabilities with local mentor musicians. RockAbility’s mentor musicians are local artists\, many of whom have life experience with someone who has a documented disability. RockAbility places musicians with disabilities into situations where they can bring their existing skills to a project that can help elevate everyone’s abilities. All rehearsals and performances focus on musicianship and teamwork. Participants are expected to practice their parts ahead of rehearsals\, which are devoted to learning how to put songs together\, collaborate\, problem solve\, and compromise. \n \nGoals \n\n Increase confidence\n Build community connections\n Elevate self-advocacy\n Establish & build touch-points with audiences\n Demonstrate integration in action\n Improve musical skills\n Have fun and rock out!\n\n \nRockAbility exists as a quality-of-life program for musicians with developmental disabilities so they can have something productive and constructive to do. It is offered free of charge to client musicians. NPower Services is grateful for the support of individual sponsors as well as the Geauga County Board of Developmental Disabilities\, the Metzenbaum Foundation\, and Jewish Family Services Association. \n \nWhat RockAbility Isn’t \nRockAbility is not a music instruction organization run by music teachers. We do not gather during Rehearsals to teach people how to become drummers\, guitarists\, singers\, or play any other instrument. RockAbility is not intended to be a source of income for any client musician. \n \nInclusion and diversity in action Musicians with documented disabilities who want to level-up their skills while working with our mentor musicians are welcome to contact us. A successful audition demonstrating an ability to play an instrument or sing is required to participate. Currently\, space constraints prohibit the group from accepting everyone\, however\, the group is looking to expand services in a non-performance track. \n \nMentor musicians provide guidance\, suggestions\, and musical camaraderie. They offer constructive suggestions to the clients who need help finding the beat\, staying on pitch\, or working out a few kinks in a solo. Often\, mentors show up at practice early or stay late to help a client musician work on specifics. Although the emphasis is on spotlighting the musicians with disabilities\, mentor musicians can step inand help carry the material as needed. \n \nNPower Services thanks the Geauga County Board of Developmental Disabilities\, the MetzenbaumFoundation\, and Jewish Family Services Association for their generous support and sponsorship of RockAbility. This undertaking would not be possible without them. \n \nAbout NPower Services \nNPower Services helps adults with special needs build meaningful lives by identifying and finding opportunities including volunteering\, employment readiness\, athletics\, art\, music\, service projects and socialization. SUMMARY:Local Holiday Gifts at Cleveland Art’s Last Holiday Market of 2022
DESCRIPTION:Cleveland Art is hosting its final 2022 Holiday Market Friday\, 3-8 p.m. and Saturday\, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.\, December 9 & 10 at Reithoffer’s Art\, Spirits and Entertainment in the Auburn Arts District at 17711 Ravenna Rd\, Chagrin Falls\, OH\, where local artisans will sell their products and Cleveland Art\, a company famous for repurposing salvage into functional works of art\, will be featuring new furniture made of historical materials recently recovered from Cleveland’s Terminal Tower. \nDaily admissions cost $10 per person\, giving guests access to a unique\, local shopping experience just in time for the holidays\, as well as a selection of local beverages and charcuteries to enjoy in Auburn’s most eclectic art gallery. Reithoffer’s Art\, Spirits and Entertainment was founded in 2019 by Jason and Debby Wein\, owners of Cleveland Art. The couple bought the property after the passing of its previous owner\, Johnathan Reithoffer\, a prominent character during his life in Auburn\, who also had a keen eye for salvage. \nIn the spirit of Reithoffer’s love of salvage\, nearing 30 years of tradition repurposing materials at Cleveland Art\, Jason and Debby are excited to share this new line of furniture the team has been hard at work building out of historical materials from the Terminal Tower. Elegant bronze trim and molding featuring floral designs\, owls\, gargoyles and other ornate patterns\, have been made into beautiful bars\, tables\, doors\, mirrors and more. “Old is new\, that’s how we do at Cleveland Art\,” said Jason Wein. “The terminal tower is the city’s most iconic building. It was built for the rail station by the Van Sweringen brothers in the 20s at the height of Cleveland’s capitalist grandeur. No expense was spared and the materials were built by some of the best craftsmen of their time.” \nUntil next year\, Cleveland is not hosting anymore Holiday Markets after this\, so interested parties should not miss this opportunity to purchase one-of-a-kind\, locally made goods in Auburn’s most eclectic venue. SUMMARY:Snowbelt Symphony Orchestra presents “Postcards from Paris”
DESCRIPTION:The Snowbelt Symphony Orchestra\n\nThe Snowbelt Symphony Orchestra presents “Postcards from Paris” Saturday\,October 29 at 7:00pm at New Promise Church in Kirtland. The concert will feature Mozart’s Symphony No. 31 “Paris” and three works by French composers – Maurice Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin\, selections from Jean-Philippe Rameau’s 1735 opera-ballet Les Indes galantes\, and Darius Milhaud’s ballet Le Boeuf sur le toit (The Ox on the Roof). The concert will be conducted by Snowbelt Musical Arts Association founder Greg Hillis. \n\n\nGreg Hillis conducts the Snowbelt Symphony Orchestra\n\n“This program could have just as easily been called Postcards To and From Paris\,” says Greg Hillis\, conductor of the Snowbelt Symphony. “Mozart wrote this symphony while looking for work\, unsuccessfully I might add\, in Paris in 1788. It uses the largest orchestra of any of his symphonies. The two pieces on the second half of the concert were written by Parisian composers\, but with references to places abroad. Each of the four acts of Les Indes galantes takes place in a different exotic place and Le Boeuf sur le toit contains over 20 Brazilian tunes that Milhaud heard while he was an attaché to the French ambassador there. The audience will leave feeling like they’ve been to Carnaval in Rio!” \nTickets for the Postcards from Paris concert are $30 for adults\, $25 for seniors\, and $8 for students. Tickets can be purchased online at www.snowbeltmusical.org. New Promise Church is located at 8671 Euclid Chardon Rd (Rt 6) in Kirtland. The church is ADA accessible with free parking onsite. \nThe Snowbelt Symphony Orchestra is a new fully-professional orchestra that will bring high quality live classical music performances to Lake and Geauga counties. The orchestra made its debut on March 12 of this year. The orchestra has additional concerts scheduled in December\, February\, and April. \nFor more information\, please visit www.snowbeltmusical.org. Snowbelt Musical Arts Association can be reached for questions or comments at info@snowbeltmusical.org or 440-296-9610.
