SUMMARY:Geauga Park District's SPACE RACE - Register ASAP to secure your Space Race T-shirt
DESCRIPTION:Ready yourself for a race like no other – Geauga Park District’s all-new SPACE RACE! \n  \nAs the sun goes down on Saturday\, October 1\, run\, jog or walk as many laps of Observatory Park’s Planetary Trail as you can between 5 and 7 p.m. Each completed 0.85-mile lap will propel you through our solar system. One lap takes you to Mercury\, two to Venus\, three to Earth and so on… \n  \nParticipants can race against each other\, sure. But most will just race themselves to see just how far “out of this world” they can go. When planning your voyage\, consider that one lap is just under a mile\, but all 16 possible laps (13.6 miles) are just over a half marathon\, so space travelers of all ages and abilities truly win by coming out! Where will YOU land – in our solar system\, or beyond? \n  \nSpace is limited\, with race T-shirts guaranteed only for the first 250 to register\, so sign up ASAP at http://bit.ly/spacerace2022-register for $20\, or on race day beginning at 3 p.m. for $25. Everyone who completes at least one lap will earn a Space Race finishers medal plus a ribbon recognizing how far they went and which planet they reached. Awards will also be given to the top three male and female finishers. \n  \nThe SPACE RACE course (aka Observatory Park’s Planetary Trail) is flat aggregate surface outlined at http://bit.ly/spacerace2022-map and will be chip-timed for two hours by GCXC. Observatory Park is located at 10610 Clay Street in Montville Township. You can also learn more about this special International Dark Sky Park at www.geaugaparkdistrict.org/park/observatory-park. \n  \nFor more on Geauga Park District offerings\, please call 440-286-9516 or visit Geauga Park District online via www.geaugaparkdistrict.org\, Facebook\, Twitter\, Instagram or YouTube.

SUMMARY:Snowbelt Symphony Orchestra: Soprano and Symphony
DESCRIPTION:Join the brand new Snowbelt Symphony Orchestra\, Lake and Geauga counties’ brand new professional orchestra for Soprano and Symphony. Acclaimed soprano Laura Pedersen joins the orchestra to perform works from the operas of Verdi and Beethoven. Franz Schubert’s Symphony No. 5 and American composer Walter Piston’s Sinfonietta round out the program. Experience the thrill of live classical music right here in your own backyard! \nProgram\nPiston: Sinfonietta\nVerdi: Opening of Act IV of Otello\nBeethoven: March from Fidelio\nBeethoven: Abscheulicher from Fidelio\nSchubert: Symphony No. 5 \nWalter Piston studied music at Harvard and then in Paris with Nadia Boulanger and Paul Dukas. He returned to the U.S. and through his friendship with Serge Koussevitsky had 11 of his works premiered with the Boston Symphony. He taught at Harvard from 1926-1960 where one of his students was none other than Leonard Bernstein. He twice won the Pulitzer Prize for music. \nAfter his success with Aida in 1871\, Verdi was reluctant to compose another opera. After 10 years of prodding by his publisher he finally agreed to take a look at Otello. Very few operatic adaptations of Shakespeare have been successful\, but Verdi had success with three of them. \nEven though he didn’t like Napoleon\, Beethoven was sympathetic to the themes of the French Revolution. The opera Fidelio is about freedom and justice. It took Beethoven three tries over 10 years to get Fidelio right. He wrote\, “it is the work that brought me the most sorrow\, for that reason it is the one most dear to me.” \nFranz Schubert attended the final premiere of Fidelio in 1814. He sold his schoolbooks to buy the ticket. Schubert composed 200 pieces in 1816\, including the Symphony No. 5. He was enamored with the music of Mozart and the symphony shows many influences of Mozart. \nFeatured Artists\nGreg Hillis\, conductor\nLaura Pedersen\, soprano \nTickets\nAdults $25\, Seniors $20\, Students $5 \n\n
