SUMMARY:"Deadpan" works by Tom Bartel and Rachel Clark
DESCRIPTION:River Gallery is delighted to announce the upcoming exhibition featuring the captivating works of husband and wife duo\, Tom Bartel and Rachel Clark. The exhibition will commence on Saturday\, June 15th\, 2024\, with an opening reception from 3pm to 6pm.\nRenowned for his expertise as Professor and Ceramics Chairperson at Ohio University\, Tom Bartel presents a striking collection of ceramic sculptures. His pieces delve into the depths of the human condition\, utilizing surrogates such as dolls\, toys\, and figurines to construct evocative representations. Themes of disguise\, identity\, fertility\, and mortality are artfully explored\, inviting viewers to contemplate the intricate narratives woven within each creation.\nComplementing Bartel’s sculptures are the mesmerizing portrait paintings by Rachel Clark. Drawing inspiration from her yearbook series\, Clark captures raw and sometimes grotesque human moments with playful sincerity. Using oil on panel\, she skillfully depicts invented characters\, each imbued with humorous childhood memories\, American stereotypes\, and the whimsy of imaginary companions. Clark’s portraits engage viewers with confrontational gazes and trance-like expressions\, inviting them into a world where formal rules are defiantly broken.\nClark shares her inspiration: “I am deeply intrigued by people—their stories\, their histories\, and the intricate narratives that their faces can reveal through portraiture. I embarked on a playful exploration of inventing portraits that reflect a paradoxical inner world\, capturing raw and sometimes grotesque human moments akin to a sudden sneeze or scream.”\nThe exhibition promises to captivate audiences with its unconventional yet profound representations of the human experience. Visitors to River Gallery will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a world of creativity and imagination\, where art serves as a mirror to the complexities of existence.\nEvent Details:\n• Date: June 15th\, 2024 – August 3rd\, 2024\n• Location: River Gallery\, Old River shopping area\, Rocky River\, Ohio\n• Opening Reception: Saturday\, June 15th\, 2024\, 3pm – 6pm\n• Admission: Free and open to the public\nFor more information about the exhibition and the artists\, please visit www.rivergalleryarts.com or contact Nicole at (440) 331-8406 or via email at rivergalleryarts@gmail.com.\nFollow us on Social Media:\n• Facebook: /rivergalleryarts\n• Instagram: /rivergalleryarts\n• TikTok: @rivergallery\nJoin us at River Gallery as we celebrate the remarkable talents of Tom Bartel and Rachel Clark\, and explore the depths of human expression through the mediums of sculpture and portraiture.

SUMMARY:Well-being in the Workplace: Leadership For All Generations
DESCRIPTION:In this workshop\, you will learn about the intersection between generational research and trauma-informed care in our workforce. As leaders\, we must be aware this is the first time in our nation’s history that five generations are represented in the workforce at the same time. We will explore what this means for us as leaders. In this workshop\, you will review how different generations may perceive the world based on the era in which they were born. Using a framework of a trauma-informed approach to the workforce\, we will identify how members of different generations may approach issues\, develop relationships with their employers\, or exhibit different work styles. We will focus on ways to build leadership and organizational development through gaining cultural competency in generations and practicing cultural humility to learn more about each other’s perspectives. We will also learn about the impact technology has had through the generations and what ways this impacts communication. \nTime: 8:30am – 10:30am\nLocation: Geauga County Public Library – Administrative Center\, Meeting and Training Room\n12701 Ravenwood Drive\nChardon\, OH 44024 \nCost per workshop:\n$50 GGP Member\, Geauga Safety Council Member\, Lake/Geauga SHRM Members;\n$65 non-GGP Member \n\n

SUMMARY:Woodland Wednesday Trees for Bees
DESCRIPTION:While trees provide many well-known ecological benefits\, the importance of trees as a source of food for bees is sometimes overlooked. \nBees and flowering plants have a critical relationship. Flowering plants provide nectar and pollen for a bee’s diet. Pollen is an essential source of protein for developing bee larvae\, and nectar provides a carbohydrate source. Bees\, in turn\, transport pollen from flower to flower as they forage\, allowing for plant fertilization and the production of seeds and fruit. \nJoin us for a virtual program on Wednesday\, March 20th at 6:30 PM to discuss this important relationship\, showcase significant tree species\, and find out what it means for your yards and your woods.  Our featured speaker is Denise Ellsworth\, Program Director\, Pollinator Education\, Department of Entomology\, The Ohio State University. \nRegistration is required for this free online presentation by visiting https://bit.ly/WoodlandWednesdaysMarch2024 \nFor more information call the county Farm Bureau office at 440.426.2195 or Ashtabula SWCD at 440.576.4946 or email ashtabulaswcd@gmail.com. \nWoodland Wednesday Collaborators include NE Counties Farm Bureaus\, Natural Resources Conservation Service\, Geauga\, Lake\, Ashtabula\, Portage\, and Trumbull Soil and Water Conservation Districts\, Division of Forestry\, Division of Wildlife\, and Holden Forests and Gardens. \n\n

SUMMARY:The Snowbelt Symphony Orchestra presents “Simply Strings…and Tuba”
DESCRIPTION:The Snowbelt Symphony Orchestra presents “Simply Strings…and Tuba” Sunday\, February 18 at 4:00pm at New Promise Church in Kirtland. The concert\, using only the strings of the orchestra\, will feature local tuba soloist J.c. Sherman in the Concertino for Tuba and String Orchestra by Jan Koetsier.  The orchestra will also be performing Holst’s St. Paul’s Suite and the Serenade for Strings by Antonin Dvorak. The concert will be conducted by Snowbelt Musical Arts Association founder Greg Hillis. \n  \nTuba soloist J.c. Sherman has been called a “jack of all brass.” As a concert soloist\, J.c. has traveled nationally and internationally with his tuba. Regionally\, Sherman has performed with every major ensemble in Northeast and North Central Ohio on a full cornucopia of brass instruments. In addition\, he performs on his serpent\, ophicleide\, natural horn\, and other antique instruments throughout the region and nationally. Mr. Sherman is currently Principal Tubist of the Firelands Symphony Orchestra\, acting Bass Trombonist of the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra\, and instructor of Low Brass at Cleveland State University. \n  \nJ.c. was formerly Principal Tuba of the Cleveland Opera and the Lakeside Symphony Orchestras. He performs regularly with the Cleveland POPS and celebrated his 24th season with the Blossom Festival Band last July. As a chamber performer\, he’s a founding member of Diamond Brass\, Firelands Symphony Brass\, the NEOTuba Quartet\, and Olympic Brass and the Cleveland Trombone Collective. A veteran entertainer from SeaWorld of Ohio\, he delights in early jazz\, performing with The Night Owls\, Earlville Jazz Band\, The Hot Jazz 7\, and the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra. \n  \nAs an artisan\, Sherman builds\, repairs\, and restores antique brass instruments and mouthpieces for clients worldwide\, while also introducing artists and audiences to his weird and wonderful collection of unusual and historic instruments. J.c. makes his home in Painesville Township. \n  \nJan Koetsier served as head conductor of the Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam and the Bavarian Radio Symphony. As a composer he is well known for his compositions for brass instruments. “Everything I’ve played by Koetsier has been challenging\, beautiful\, and shows a great sense of humor\,” says Mr. Sherman. Conductor Greg Hillis adds\, “If you think the tuba is just for blatting oom-pahs in polka music\, come to this concert to find out just what a beautiful\, melodic instrument it can be.” \nTickets for the Simply Strings…and Tuba concert are $30 for adults\, $25 for seniors\, and $8 for students. Tickets can be purchased online at www.snowbeltmusical.org. New Promise Church is located at 8671 Euclid Chardon Rd (Rt 6) in Kirtland. \n  \nThe Snowbelt Symphony Orchestra is a new 33-player fully-professional orchestra bringing high quality live classical music performances to Lake and Geauga counties. The orchestra next performs on April 22 with a concert featuring music of Beethoven and Wagner.. \n  \nFor more information\, please visit www.snowbeltmusical.org. Snowbelt Musical Arts Association can be reached for questions or comments at info@snowbeltmusical.org or 440-296-9610. SMAA can be followed on Facebook\, Instagram\, and Twitter @snowbeltmusical.
