Geocache Day

Registration required for 4-part summer cache extravaganza

Even though Geauga Park District has been posting new geocache coordinates in each of its quarterly newsletters, participants have been clamoring for more.

Ask and ye shall receive! Summer ushers in the third Geocache Day of the year, taking participants to four more parks in a single day of treasure hunt fun!

What: Geocache Day: Summer

When: Saturday, August 10 – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Where: Walter C. Best Wildlife Preserve
11620 Ravenna Road, Munson Township

Geocaching is an up-and-coming challenge activity that gets you outside using your GPS to help locate hidden caches. Seasonal Geocache Days will provide even more fun and practice with your GPS, as well as the opportunity to explore even more parks.

Upon registration – required by phone at 440-279-0894 – you’ll be assigned a card, such as a King of Clubs, that you’ll need to retrieve from each of the caches. This season’s caches will be hidden in some of our county’s western parks: Orchard Hills Park, Bass Lake Preserve, Bessie Benner Metzenbaum Park and Walter C. Best Wildlife Preserve. Your quest can begin any time during posted hours up to a week before, but must end at Walter C. Best Wildlife Preserve between 1 and 4 p.m.

Four cards tell us you located all four hiding spots and earn you four chances to win prizes. If your schedule doesn’t allow you to hit all four parks, earn a ticket for each card you turn in by 4 p.m.

A complete set of instructions is posted online. Anyone school age or older is welcome to participate in this free, family-friendly activity. However, caches will be placed off trail so this activity is not wheelchair/stroller accessible. With questions, call 440-286-9516.
