Chagrin Falls’ Students Participate in RealizeU Idea Challenge
On December 15th, the Entrepreneurial Learning Initiative at Chagrin Falls High School presented the first annual “RealizeU Idea Challenge.” The Idea Challenge was a “Concept Pitch Competition” that encouraged all Chagrin Falls High School students to develop and present a new invention, an improvement to an existing invention or a new innovative idea that could alleviate a local or global problem. A panel of independent judges based their decisions on the criteria of uniqueness, quality of the presentation, competitive attributes, if there was a market need, and the overall idea.
The third place $250.00 winner was Ben Karyo with his company Familiar Faces. The company would use existing augmented reality technology to provide facial recognition and location reminders to people with dementia. The second place $500.00 winners were Vala Zeinali and Max Helgeson with their company MV Aqua.
This company would provide a service that teaches farmers the new revolutionary system of aquaponics. Their business model is designed to help farmers with this technology as well as assisting customers in setting up an at home aquaponics system. The first place $750.00 winner was Alex Amata with his company Targeted Advertisement System. His company would be a new technology that incorporated animated overlay on field or court advertisements to allow more personalized and effective advertisements during sports games.”I had a great time both presenting and watching my fellow classmates present,” said Amata. “It was a little suspenseful not knowing what the judges were going to ask, but it was rewarding because I got the chance to further develop an idea I have had since I traveled to Costa Rica as a sophomore. I was excited when I won because I thought all the ideas were very well researched and unique. It was a great experience and I am glad I had the opportunity to be involved.”
The event took place in the high school’s Innovation Center but was also broadcasted live online via Boxcast.
