Nothing can be sweeter than seeing how what you’re eating is made by Mother Nature!
Featuring historical displays and hands-on activities, including an opportunity to help gather sap from the sugar bush on Sunday, it’s no wonder Geauga Park District’s Sap’s-A-Risin’ setup is a staple featured stop on this statewide tour of local maple sugaring operations.
The March Maple Madness Drive-It-Yourself Tours will on Saturdays, March 9 and 16, and Sundays, March 10 and 17 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Swine Creek Reservation, Sugar House, 16004 Hayes Road, Middlefield Township.
Touring maple sugaring operations across Ohio’s beautiful countryside will provide the entire family with the opportunity to see first-hand how clear, sweet sap from the maple tree becomes golden, delicious maple syrup. This year’s tour includes 42 stops in 18 counties across Ohio; some are backyard operations, while others are large commercial sugar houses, with several Amish sugar bushes included on Saturdays.
Registration is not required for this free, all-ages opportunity, which is wheelchair/stroller accessible at Swine Creek Reservation, though other sugarhouses on the tour may not be. Don’t forget your boots and warm outerwear!
Descriptions of all stops are available online. Please call 440-834-1415 for details on the tour, or 440-286-9516 for details on the Swine Creek stop.
Want a few other ways to celebrate tree-tapping season? Mark these programs on your calendar – Sap’s-A-Risin’ on Sundays, March 3, 10 and 17; and the Silver Anniversary Tree Tapper’s Ball on Saturday, March 9, at Parkman Community House (registration required).
