Special April Bird Watches with Geauga Park District

Whether you know it or not, you see birds every day – sparrows and chickadees, and maybe cardinals, too. But, what about the woodcock, or the snipe? We don’t think these are quite so common.

Make some special time to revisit your natural roots, to “come home,” to destress and reinvigorate your senses in these birds’ springtime habitats!

The April Evening Adventure will take place on Friday, April 15, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Eldon Russell Park, 16315 Rapids Road, Troy Twp.

Experience a genuine Geauga County springtime performance: a woodcock air show accompanied by a chorus full of Spring Peepers piping, Barred Owl bantering, beaver tail slapping and heron flapping. Great for families with kids school age and up.

Wilson’s Snipe “Hunt” will take place on Saturday, April 16, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Frohring Meadows, 16780 Savage Road, Bainbridge Twp.

If someone takes you to the woods for a “snipe hunt,” you’re in the wrong habitat. But if you come here with a naturalist, you may just see and hear some. Spring migration is underway, and we welcome home the Wilson’s Snipe to our park.

This wetland bird, like its relative the woodcock, also does an aerial courtship dance that we hope to witness. Bring binoculars!

Programs will be cancelled in heavy rain or storms; check here for statuses. With other questions, please call 440-286-9516.
