SUMMARY:A Wild Night for Wildlife Benefit
DESCRIPTION:Aquarium fundraising event to support threatened turtle species\nSpend a Friday evening at the Greater Cleveland Aquarium to support regional efforts to protect wildlife with special focus on the exciting regional work to protect the Spotted Turtles! \nThe WildNite4WildLife: Northeast Ohio Wildlife Benefit will be held Friday\, November 15\, from 6 to 9 p.m. with tickets available online. \nWhat’s cool about this event? Besides special access to the aquarium\, there will be live music\, activities\, displays\, wildlife demonstrations\, silent auctions\, raffles and fun. \nTickets cost $20 for adults and $16 for children\, with age 2 and under free – just a nickel more expensive than general admission to the aquarium\, but all will go to benefit a good cause! Half of ticket sales will go to the sponsor organization of your choice in the form of conservation grants; the other half goes directly to Spotted Turtle work. \nWhy the Spotted Turtle?\nSpotted Turtles are an Ohio Threatened Species\, so everything we can do to protect their habitat is vital to their survival. \nNew Spotted Turtle displays at the Greater Cleveland Aquarium and Cleveland Metroparks Zoo speak on the importance of biodiversity in our region. \nGeauga Park District tracks Spotted Turtles on its property and works with the Ohio Division of Wildlife to remove overpopulated predators\, particularly raccoons\, from turtle habitats. \nRegional work by Geauga Park District\, Cleveland Museum of Natural History\, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo and Greater Cleveland Aquarium is trying to augment hatchling survival: collecting turtles found in the wild\, hatching their eggs and raising them to a size that will give them an advantage for survival upon release. \nSince the project started last year\, two baby turtles hatched from Geauga County parents. These two could be released back into the wild as soon as next year. Said Geauga Park District Park Biologist Paul Pira\, “It’s just a great cooperative project and a neat story we need to get out.” \nGeauga Park District is online\, Facebook\, Twitter and YouTube.
