SUMMARY:Liz Boch - Artist Feature
DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday evening\, August 19\, the GANG (Geauga Arts Network Group) program will feature Liz Boch\, a recent recipient of the Scholastic Art and Writing Gold Key Award in the drawing category. Boch will talk about her current work and aspirations as a fine artist as she prepares to head off to Ohio University in the fall. This educational program\, which is free and open to the general public\, will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Heinen’s Cafe\, 402 Center Street in Chardon\, Ohio. Host for the evening is painter Doby Green. No reservations are necessary. \nBoch has been creating art “all her life” and credits a cousin who is an accomplished artist for encouraging her\, and artist and Grand Valley High School teacher Annie Peters for guiding her development. Boch works in all media\, but is particularly attracted to drawing in charcoal and graphite\, and experimentation with surface manipulation. Her work is distinguished by its integration of high concept themes with very detailed execution. Her most recent work reflects her current fascination with the relationship between life and death\, and features detailed explorations of skeletal artifacts. She considers herself a feminist\, and will be sharing a cross-section of her work with the GANG. \nIn addition to receiving national recognition with the Scholastic award\, Boch has received Best of Show awards from a variety of venues in Northeast Ohio and one of her works was selected out of more than 12\,000 entries for the Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition. To preview some of her work in advance of the program\, visit this Facebook page. \nThe Geauga Arts Network Group is an ad hoc group whose mission is to promote communication\, collaboration\, and cooperation across artistic disciplines for artists living and/or working in Geauga County. For further information\, contact Joanne Durante\, 440-729-6481. \nTo see other artists that have been featured with GANG\, click here.

SUMMARY:Oil Painter Terry Orvis
DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday evening\, July 15\, oil painter and professional architect Terry Orvis will share his thoughts on balancing work with a life in the arts as the featured artist for this month’s GANG (Geauga Arts Network Group) program. This educational program\, which is free and open to the general public\, will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Heinen’s Cafe\, 402 Center Street in Chardon\, Ohio. Host for the evening is arts therapist Joyce Gagnon. No reservations are necessary. \nOrvis began drawing as a child\, but let art slide during the early years of his architectural career. Around 1990\, he decided to rekindle his passion for art. Mostly self-taught\, Orvis has done a lot of reading\, observing\, and experimenting to perfect his work. \nPrimarily a portrait artist\, he also does still life paintings. His preferred medium is oil\, and he works “mostly for my own enjoyment.” Orvis has done oil painting demonstrations for various art groups around Northeast Ohio. He recently won Best of Show in the annual art show sponsored by the Geauga Council on Arts and Culture. \nOrvis will be bringing many samples of his work to the GANG program\, including some abstract experiments. He continues to divide his time between architecture and painting and has been a Geauga County resident for 35 years. \nThe Geauga Arts Network Group is an ad hoc group whose mission is to promote communication\, collaboration\, and cooperation across artistic disciplines for artists living and/or working in Geauga County. For further information\, contact Joanne Durante\, 440-729-6481. \n*self portrait of Terry Orvis
