SUMMARY:Winter Fun Days at Orchard Hills Park
DESCRIPTION:Have a blast in the snow with snowshoes\, sleds\, crafts\, games and more. \nWhen it’s below freezing\, it can be hard to think about the “joys of winter.” But there are many things about winter that make it all worthwhile\, and here’s one way to celebrate a bunch at once. \nWhat: Winter Fun Day\nWhen: Friday\, January 2 – 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.\nWhere: Orchard Hills Park\, 11340 Caves Road\, Chesterland \nHot cocoa\, family time on a sled\, catching snowflakes\, skiing and enjoying the crisp air by an outdoor fire are all things you can do in one day at Orchard Hills Park. \nThe duration of this program features sledding\, snowshoe exploration of the park (ages 10+)\, activities and crafts\, such as making your own birdseed ornaments from our Bird Seed Bar and trying your hand at painting with ice! \nNora the Explorer hosts “wildlife detective training” at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. \nGames will include a “snow snake” race\, sliding painted wooden poles on ice or snow; getting a “close-up” look at snowflakes under a microscope; and catching your own with a snow crystal card! \nAt the heated lodge\, volunteers will also tend a cozy fire with warm drinks\, snacks and refreshments the whole time. Please bring a packed lunch and stay awhile! \nNo snow? No worries – naturalists have alternate activities planned as well. \nThis Connect with Community-themed program includes a food drive to collect non-perishable items and help re-stock Geauga Hunger Task Force after the holidays. Please bring something to feel the connection! \nRegistration is not required for this free program for the whole family\, which is partially wheelchair/stroller accessible. Activities will utilize both the main Orchard Hills Lodge and the shelter at the base of the sledding hill. DESCRIPTION:This October\, let cooler temperatures\, reds\, oranges\, yellows and browns help you unwind during a one-hour walk in a different park each week. Geauga Park District’s Walktober After-Work Hikes will be held Wednesdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.: October 2 at Swine Creek Reservation (Woods Edge)\, October 9 at Headwaters Park (Route 322 Parking Area)\, October 16 at Beartown Lakes Reservation (North Point)\, October 23 at Orchard Hills Park\, and October 30 at Frohring Meadows. \nVarious park staff picked their favorite trails to show you as you join them for these walks. Registration is not required\, but do dress for the weather; walks are only canceled for high winds and/or electrical storms. If you think a walk may be canceled due to weather\, just call 440-286-9516 and choose 0 to check.
