SUMMARY:Audubon highlights bird migration and Motus tracking - In Person OR Virtual Presentation
DESCRIPTION:As fall migration winds down\, Blackbrook Audubon invites everyone to hear “Monitoring Bird Migration: Evolving Technologies and Remarkable Discoveries” by Dr. Andy Jones of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. This free presentation will be 7:00 p.m. Tuesday\, November 16 at Geauga Park District’s The West Woods Nature Center. \nBanding birds and reporting sightings on eBird continue to help in understanding bird migration\, but the array of technologies available to ornithologists is constantly changing. New tools both large and tiny are giving fresh insights into individual birds’ migratory behaviors. Dr. Jones will go over several of these newer systems\, including the current status of the Motus network. The northeast corner of Ohio has a gap on the Motus map and Blackbrook Audubon is looking into filling that void. \nParticipants can attend the program in person or register on the event page of blackbrookaudubon.org to receive a link to view the program live online. While the program starts at 7:00 p.m.\, Trevor Wearstler\, the host and president of Blackbrook\, will open access to the meeting about 6:30 p.m. so people can familiarize themselves with the software features or chat with other attendees. Refreshments will not be served at the in-person program\, which will be at 9465 Kinsman Road\, Rt. 87 in Russell. \nBlackbrook Audubon covers Ashtabula\, Geauga and Lake Counties as the local chapter of National Audubon Society.
