Come Home to Nature – “Meet” the man who inspired Geauga Park District’s 2016 theme

Going to the woods is going home. –John Muir
Geauga Park District has spent 2016 inviting you to “Come Home to Nature” in your Geauga Park District. Now, “meet” the incredible naturalist who coined the phrase in an encore presentation of John Muir: Come Home to Nature!

What: John Muir: Come Home to Nature!
When: Sunday, November 6th – 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Where: The West Woods Nature Center, 9465 Kinsman Road (Rt. 87), Russell Twp.

John Muir, who lived 1838 to 1914, was America’s most famous and influential naturalist and conservationist who taught the importance of experiencing and protecting our natural heritage. Also known for his journalism, he was a writer and advocate of U.S. forest conservation – leaving behind many strong quotes and anecdotes to support his cause, to be heard during this presentation. In fact, Muir’s activism helped to preserve the Yosemite Valley, Sequoia National Park and other wilderness areas. And his legend lives on through The Sierra Club, a prominent American conservation organization, which he founded. Geauga Park District’s Chief Naturalist John Kolar has portrayed John Muir in various avenues statewide for years, and people who’ve attended this programming always find his impersonation a fabulous and inspiring substitute for the real thing! The West Woods Nature Center is fully wheelchair/stroller accessible. Registration is not required to attend – come one and come all. Call 440-286-9516 with questions.

Wonderful Waterfowl – It’s that time of year – come see what you can see

Make a plan to spend a Saturday morning looking for loons, waterfowl and Bald Eagles during prime migration time!

What: Waterfowl on the Move
When: Saturday, November 12th – 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Where: Meet at LaDue Reservoir’s Boathouse parking area on U.S. Route 422, 1 mile east of state Route 44

Registration is not required for this Nature’s Not to Be Missed program. Van seats will be available first come, first served for this seasonal exploration; a caravan will travel behind the bus if it fills. Binocular viewing will be possible from the bus, and spotting scopes will be provided when we get out.
