The fair is coming up very fast now, and if you’re looking forward to it as much as I am, then you’ll certainly want to check out these great events and be aware of some important details.
First off, we are proud to announce that New Direction Photography is the official Geauga County Fair photographer. Be sure to check out their Facebook page, and say hi to Amanda if you see her there! They have some beautiful photos of the fair that we’ve used in the past, and this year will be no exception, I’m sure.
1. Don’t Miss the Demolition Derby
Demolition Derby at 8:30 p.m. in the Main Grandstand on Thursday night. This has to be one of my favorite memories of years past, and one of my favorite things to watch. What better way can a guy spend his night than watching people smash their cars up for fun? I love it.
2. Don’t Miss the Flying Chickens!
Can chickens fly? Well, you can come be the judge of that at the Chicken Flying Contest at Noon on Thursday in the Small Grandstand with Jason Handman of WOIO Channel 19 as host. If I remember right, they push the chickens out of a mailbox with a toilet plunger. What could be funner than that? Is funner a word? In this case I think it fits.
3. Check Out the Horse Pulls on Friday
The Horse Pulls start at 6:00 p.m. on Friday at the Main Grandstand, and you don’t want to miss this. It’s a lot of fun to watch these horses and their owners compete. That’s something that I used to watch with my grandfather when he was still around, and it’s something that I still enjoy to this day.
4. If You Like Country Music
Then you’ll want to check out Chris Higbee. This is a Free Country Music Show at 8:00 p.m. on Friday in Small Grandstand. We all love FREE, right? Stop by and check them out.
5. Apple Pie!

Apple Pie Day is Saturday and you’ll want to stop by and bid on your chance to eat an award winning apple pie. The auction starts at 2:30 p.m. and I believe it’s up near the fine arts buildings.
6. Support 4H at the Livestock Sale
Saturday at 3:30 p.m. mozy on over to the Auction Tent and then at 5:00 p.m. at the Arena. You can buy burgers for a year, bacon for a small village, ducks, chickens, and turkeys, oh my! But seriously, stop by and support your local 4H groups and the junior farmers who are there.
7. The Saturday Night Demo Derby
If your favorite car made it through Thursday night’s demo derby, then you’ll want to come out and root for them on Saturday night as well! The demo derby starts at 8:30 p.m. so make sure you get your tickets early and get ready to enjoy a intense time of smash ’em up.
8. Don’t Miss the Diaper Dash!

One of the cutest and possibly funniest things you can see at the Great Geauga County Fair is the Diaper Dash! It starts at 3:00 p.m. in the Jr. Fair Building on Sunday. Make sure you’re there to root on your favorite little cutie pie.
9. Have You Ever Watched the Frog Jumping Contest?
If you haven’t done that before, then you’re going to want to make sure you get down to the arena at 3:00 p.m. to see this interesting event. This will be hosted by Chris Van Vliet and Jason Handman of WOIO television channel. Make sure you check it out!
10. They’re Loud, but They’re Fun to Watch
The tractor pulls are also a lot of fun to watch. I’m still not sure how they come off as being called “tractors,” but I will say that it is a loud and exciting event. Be there at the Main Grandstand at 3:00 p.m. and enjoy the show.
