In our society, people are often in such a rush that they forget that they are in this world for a fairly short time. Maximizing that time is crucial. Here are some seemingly small ways to help you maximize your time on this earth.

Stop Procrastinating

Procrastination is something that everyone can stop doing immediately to improve their quality of life. How often do you say, “I’ll do that tomorrow”? Before long, tomorrow is gone and there are no more tomorrows left. Start saving for that vacation now, start exercising now, do all of those things that you have been putting off now. Before you know it, tomorrow is gone.

Start Exercising

Many people are guilty of putting exercising off until tomorrow. Do it now, while your body is still able. Exercising now will ensure that your body will be able to well in the future. Exercising now actually ensures more tomorrows to come.

Take Time for the Little Things

Take time out during the day to play a game of catch. Have that conversation with a friend. Watch the sunrise. What may immediately seem unimportant and trivial may actually end up being incredibly important to you or someone you love. Don’t be afraid to take the time to actually live.

Stop Worrying so Much

Think about it. Worrying is actually a waste of time. It is one thing to think about how a situation can be changed, and a totally different thing to think about how a situation can affect you. Change what you can and don’t worry about what you can’t control.

Don’t be Afraid to Laugh and Smile

It has been proven by science that happiness not only causes smiling, but smiling actually causes happiness. When you wake up, you have two choices; be happy, or be sad. Everyone knows that being sad is no fun. Put a smile on your face and make yourself happy. In turn, people around you will be happy.

Be Thankful for What You Have.

Do you have friends? Do you have a loving family (even if they are weird at times)? Do you have a roof over your head? Be thankful. Some people don’t have those things.

Be Charitable

Many people don’t have the good fortune of having some of the same things that you do. Don’t be afraid to offer your time, money or talents to help those less fortunate.

Be Selfish

This may seem somewhat contradictory to being charitable and thankful, but it’s really not. Take some “me” time to collect your thoughts, plan your next action or just relax. You can’t be your best “you” if you don’t take time for yourself too.

Ditch the Phone Around Friends or Family

Show those close to you that they really are important to you. Turn off your phone or leave it at home so you can give those people your undivided attention. They deserve it.

Don’t be Shy and Listen

These are two seemingly contradictory ideas, but they’re really not. Put yourself out there and introduce yourself to people. Then, when you do introduce yourself, listen to them. Don’t just hear the words that they are saying, but really listen to them. You will most likely make a new friend and you might just meet your best friend or soulmate.

Remember: “Life is not measured by how many breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away” –unknown.
