The weather is cool and the snowflakes are flying which brings the delight and beauty of the holidays. Let’s share that joy with those in need.
The need for our food pantries has increased dramatically, particularly in visits from our senior population. There are also many families working hard but unable to keep food on the table.
Last year, the Geauga Hunger Task Force pantries served 4,256 families in need. With seven weeks remaining in the year, our local food pantries have already provided food to more families than in 2013. The Task Force is supported by generous food and monetary donations from the community. Due to federal cuts, the local food banks have had to work harder to keep our neighbors fed.
For the past 25 years, talented volunteer musicians of the area have come together to raise funds for the Geauga Hunger Task Force. The Good Tidings Benefit Choir will be performing the many Christmas selections including a portion of GF Handel’s “Messiah“. Pilgrim Brass will perform at both concerts, “10 or 4“, a southern gospel group on Saturday; and an Appalachian string group, “The Sounds of the Little River” on Sunday.
The performances will be December 6 at 7:00 pm and December 7 at 3:00 pm. at Notre Dame Chapel, located at 13000 Auburn Road in Munson, home of the Sisters of Notre Dame.
There is no charge for the performances but a goodwill offering will be taken. Reservations are not necessary.
The choir is under the direction of Robert Boles, Aubrey Woods, and accompanied by Joy Leirer and Kaitlin Emmert on violin. The fine soloists this season will be Robert Boles, Chris Condon, Laura Christian, Sara Hamrick, Pat Heinz, Colleen Juhasz, Charles Moosbrugger, Kathy Muzik, Katie Paskey, and Aubrey Woods. The attendees will also be invited to join in the Hallelujah Chorus.
The Geauga Hunger Task Force is a volunteer organization established in 1977 whose mission is to ensure that no resident of Geauga County goes hungry. This is accomplished by seven food pantries located throughout the county that provide emergency food. Please consider attending this wonderful event and extending your neighbors a loving hand.
