Changing the world may seem like an impossible task, but it’s not. You have everything you need to positively affect your world right now.
You must be the change you wish to see in the world. ~ Mohandas Gandhi

From the little that I know about Gandhi, he is rightfully called the the Father of Independence in India. His non-violent tactics and message to the world still ring true years after his assassination. The quote I shared above has stuck with me for years because it reminds me that even someone like me has the power to change the world. Gandhi influenced a nation that now has a population of over a billion people.
You can do the same.
Don’t underestimate how your actions can make a lifelong impact on the world around you. Here are three actions that, when practiced, help change the world around me:
1. Speak the Truth in Love
One of the most powerful and refreshing actions that you can take is to lovingly speak the truth. When you are brave enough and kind enough to share what you honestly feel about a situation, you open the door for honest communication. Honesty always gives everyone involved the opportunity to change.
2. Accept People Just as They Are
Personally, I have never seen anything more powerful than letting someone know that you love and accept them just the way they are. By saying this to them face to face and meaning it with all your heart, you will break down relational barriers that you didn’t even know existed.

Accepting people for who they are will not only change your perspective, but it will change how they interact with you.

3. Step Out in Faith
Taking the first step in your dream or calling is often incredibly difficult and scary. Most of the time we know the right thing to do long before we ask for someone’s opinion, but we wait because we are fearful of what could happen. It’s always scary, but when it comes time to change the world, someone has to be first. That someone is you.
I don’t believe that the fear of failure will ever leave you completely if you are consistently faithful in stepping forward. If you actively undertake the life of a world changer, then there will be many times when you’ll have to be honest about the fears you have, and then take a deep breath and jump.
Your unique skills, experience, and makeup as an individual make you uniquely suited for specific goals and opportunities in your immediate sphere of influence. There’s no one like you out there. All the rest of us are depending on you to step up, step out, and do the right thing.

4. Go Above and Beyond
Okay, I know I said I had “3 ways to change the world”, but in reality, there aren’t any perfect formulas. Often we have to serve a little longer, work a little harder, and do a little more to move something from the good intentioned idea phase to the tipping point of actually being an effective game changing movement. So what is the fourth step? What ways have you seen positive change come into the world directly around you?
Remember that our county is only 100,000 people, and Geauga News is quickly becoming 2% of our local world. If you and I, and a handful of people around us commit to changing things for the better, we might change the world of Geauga County after all.
