7 Household Uses for Baking Soda

Baking soda has a lot of other uses than just for baking. The problem is that it has so many uses that you forget just what exactly you can use it for (at least in my experiences.) If you’re one of those people that forgets or doesn’t know all of the extraordinary uses that baking soda has, then this article is for you.

1. Freshen Up Stinky Shoes

If you don’t want your shoes to smell like months of foot sweat, then baking soda is what you need. Just sprinkle the inside of your shoes with baking soda, and let it sit until you have to wear the shoes next. Then, just knock the baking soda out of your shoe and you’re good to go.

2. Polish Your Jewelry

Tarnished jewelry is a major problem at my house. Start off by lining a bowl with some aluminum foil and filling it with hot water. Submerge your old jewelry into the water, and then mix the baking soda in so the jewelry sticks to the mixture. Then, polish up the jewelry so it shimmers and shines the next time you want to wear it!

3. Brighten Clothes

This tip is an oldie but a goodie. Just put in a cup of baking soda alongside your usual detergent and boom! By the time you’re finished with the load, your clothes will look brighter and fresher than they ever have before.

4. Get Rid of Oven Stains

Dust the bottom of your oven with baking soda and then spray it with water. Let it sit for a few hours. Then, wipe it up with paper towels. Like magic, the stain that sets off the smoke alarms won’t be a problem anymore.

5. Unclog Drains

This is a cool one. Start off by pouring half of a cup (1/2) of baking soda down your drain, followed by one cup of vinegar. Follow it up with boiling water and watch the clogs magically go away!

6. Make Your Shower Shine

This tip is so simple, you’ll regret not using it sooner. The next time that you go to clean your shower, make sure that you sprinkle a little bit of baking soda on the sponge. You’ll be amazed at how clean your shower looks.

7. Cure Smelly Sponges

Put your sponge in a baking soda and water mixture and let it soak for a while. Your nose will thank you later.
