Mrs. Robinson and Miss Karg’s 8th-grade English students have been reading The Outsiders written by S.E. Hinton. Darry, Sodapop, and Ponyboy love chocolate cake for breakfast. “Sodapop always makes sure there’s some in the ice box every night and if there isn’t he cooks one up real quick….All three of us are crazy about chocolate stuff.”
After reading and answering questions from a non-fiction text (recipe and directions) for Sodapop’s Chocolate Cake, students followed the directions and made their own cakes (cupcakes). Some students even went so far as to get into character as either a” Greaser” or a “Soc” and dress the part.
