Chardon Elementary Looking for Book Buddies

The Chardon Library Book Buddies is a free community program organized by the Chardon Public Library for students who just finished 1st or 2nd grade and need a little support to inspire confidence in their reading. The purpose of this program is to encourage reading throughout the summer while reinforcing skills acquired during the school year.

The children are paired with teens and adults in the community who have volunteered for this program. The volunteers will provide reading experiences for the students for 6 – one-hour sessions at the Chardon Library between June 11and August 12, 2014. In order to satisfy the purpose of this program, we ask that the six sessions include at least one meeting
in June, once in July and once in August and no more than twice in one week.

The Chardon Rotary makes a generous donation to help with expenses and to provide a Shel Silverstein poetry book for each child who completes six reading sessions. The program concludes with an Ice Cream Social in August to celebrate the accomplishments of our readers and their volunteers. The poetry books will be presented as each reader is recognized for their achievement. If you have questions or would like to volunteer, please call Debbie Seufer or Judy Lasco at the Chardon Public Library at 285-7601 or email debra.seufer@geaugalibrary.info.
