United Way Services of Geauga County is recruiting high school students who live or go to school in Geauga County to join their Youth Fund Distribution Committee (YFDC). They are seeking two representatives from each high school in Geauga County.
Students who serve on this committee are given the opportunity to award $20,000 to youth-serving organizations in the county. In the process, students learn about community needs, review proposals, interview agencies, and make funding decisions. Students also have the opportunity to meet and work with students from other schools.
The goals of the YFDC, which meets monthly from October through May, are to provide youth with hands-on experience in solving community problems, connect them to experiences and people outside the confines of their own community, and prepare a new generation of philanthropic leaders.
The YFDC is currently recruiting 10th – 12th graders for the 2015-16 school year. Application deadline is 5pm on September 25. Information and applications can be found online under Get Involved, Volunteer, or contact Joann Randall at jrandall@uws.org.
