Snorkeling at this beautiful preserve maxed out its registration the first year it was offered. Most of Geauga Park District’s other lakes do not have the clarity of Best Lake.
Best Lake was created from a former quarry, which contributes to its crystal-clear waters. By late August, the water temperature in the lake has warmed to a downright cozy level.
“I love the views a person can obtain by taking a mask-and-fins dive down to the lake’s bottom,” said Naturalist Chris Mentrek. “After all, how often does a human get a chance to explore the bottom of a lake? (Sunken treasure is not out of the question.)”
Registration and a $25 fee for snorkel instruction by Just Add Water is required for this rain-or-shine opportunity for ages 8 and older at http://geaugaparkdistrict.org or 440-286-9516. Each time slot can take up to six people. Bring your own equipment and wet suits, or they will be provided.
Geauga Park District is online at www.geaugaparkdistrict.org, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.
