Chagrin Falls High School Student Earns First Place at Ohio State University Robotics Competition
Chagrin Falls High School student Trevor Gravely, along with his partner Patrick Fulton from Kalamazoo, Michigan, received first place at The Ohio State University’s Engineering Summer Experience (ESE) 2016. The theme for the robotics competition was “Captain America: Civil War.”
The ESE was a week-long, residential engineering camp for sophomores, juniors and seniors. More than ninety students applied to participate in the ESE, but in the end, thirty-six students were selected from Ohio, Indiana, New Jersey, Michigan, Pennsylvania, California, Wisconsin and West Virginia. The students were paired up and given the task to design a robot that could detect colors, follow lines, travel known distances and to detect, pick-up and deliver objects. Trevor and Patrick’s robot earned the highest score.
Besides robotics, students were also introduced to CAD, laser cutting and building a DC motor. The students toured the Honda manufacturing facility in Marysville, Ohio and saw a demonstration in OSU’s High Voltage Laboratory.
