2016 Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District’s Annual Meeting, Election and Candidate Information

The Board of Supervisors of the Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) would like to cordially invite the public to help celebrate their 72nd anniversary in conservation while also voting for the next Board Supervisors. The dinner meeting is slated for Thursday, November 3rd at the Geauga County Fairgrounds School Building, 14373 N. Cheshire Road in Burton. Registration and the election of two Board Supervisors will be from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. only. Dinner will be served promptly at 7:00 p.m. Candidates include Mike Henry, Jeffrey Huntsberger, and Kristina Port.

Mike Henry, P.E.
Mike Henry has served on the SWCD board since 2008, and is currently the Chairman. Mike resides in Auburn Township with his wife, Michelle, and their two daughters. He is a Professional Engineer and has spent the past 10 years as a partner with Chagrin Valley Engineers, Ltd. Mike has served as a member of the Auburn Township Zoning Commission from 2005 – 2015. He is an avid skier, hunter, and 4-h advisor. Mike is passionate about managing the resources of Geauga County responsibly and with integrity.

Jeffrey Huntsberger
Jeff joined the SWCD board in 2015 and serves as Treasurer. He is a Munson Township resident of more than 33 years where he and his wife, Sally, raised two boys and two girls. He grew up in Chesterland and graduated from West Geauga High School. As a partner with the law firm of McDonald Hopkins, LLC, Jeff has extensive experience in many areas of real estate, oil and gas, and business law. He served on the Geauga County Planning Commission for 11 years, most recently as its chairperson. He is a member of the Rotary Club of Chesterland and Celebration Lutheran Church in Chardon. His hobbies include fly fishing and gardening. Jeff enjoys being on the board because of his lifelong interest in Geauga County and preserving the County’s resources.

Kristina Port, M.P.A.
Kristina Port was born in Chesterland and has lived in Russell Township for 32 years. She earned a degree in education and a Masters of Public Administration from Cleveland State University. Kristina is a former Russell Township Trustee, an alumni of Leadership Geauga, and has served as a liaison to the Chagrin Rivers Watershed Partners and a delegate to the Northeast Ohio Area Wide Coordinating Agency on various committees. She is currently on the Board of Directors for Ravenwood Health and a member of the Council of Smaller Enterprises (COSE). Kristina would like to serve on the board to share her knowledge and interest of land and water conservation projects, particularly storm water management and waterways protection.

All voters must be at least 18 years of age the night of the election and must reside or own land within Geauga County. You may stop by to vote even if you are not able to stay for the meeting. Anyone wishing to vote who cannot attend the meeting may do so by making a request for an absentee voting ballot.
