Geauga County Public Library catalog is migrating to Clevnet, a northeast Ohio library consortium with considerable buying power. The go-live date is Monday, February 6, 2017.
Patrons will continue to enjoy access to millions of library items. Searching for materials and browsing the collection will still be intuitive and net the best research, education and entertainment resources. Whether readers want books, digital books, movies, music, or television shows, they will be able to check out the items they want – whenever they want them.
Several changes will enhance the borrowing experience:
- Greater collaboration with other northeast Ohio libraries, allowing patrons to borrow, place holds, pick up and return items at 105 library branches in 43 Clevnet library systems across 12 counties, including the Burton Public Library.
- Expanded access to valuable research and learning sites including the popular language skill builder Rosetta Stone.
- Continued book reviews and recommendations within the catalog.
- Continued text notifications.
- Access to more than 10 million items among participating libraries. And, if you’re looking for an obscure item, place a request or ask a librarian for extra assistance. We’ll find it for you.
- Robust foreign language collection containing books, magazines and other materials for adults and children with rotating displays of cultural items.
- Major tax dollar savings: One of the best reasons for this migration is to save taxpayer money. The collective cost savings of this consortium is more than $30 million, resulting from libraries sharing cataloging and administrative services, computer equipment, professional support and consolidated circulation. GCPL stands to save approximately $250,000 over the next 12 months.
- Improved phone system using VoIP technology. Moving to Clevnet allows us to have direct lines for most of our staff members (no more extensions!) And, we can transfer callers seamlessly from one building to another.
Resetting your PIN (Personal Identification Number)
As with any migration, a few hiccups are to be expected during the early weeks. Your current PIN will not migrate into the new environment. Starting February 6th, to access digital materials, you will need both your library barcode number as well as your new PIN, which will be the last four digits of the phone number in your library record. If you experience any complications, our staff members are happy to reset PINs for you. To do this, simply visit or call your local GCPL Branch:
- Bainbridge: 440-543-5611
- Chardon: 440-285-7601
- Geauga West: 440-729-4250
- Middlefield: 440-632-1961
- Newbury: 440-564-7552
- Thompson: 440-298-3831
Holds
Items you have placed holds on before February 6th, will transfer into the new Clevnet environment. You do not need to do anything.
Improving the patron experience
Delivering services at the high level we have established since 1963 will not change. Everyone should continue to rely on Geauga County Public Library to provide the best print and digital items for study, entertainment, and personal enrichment. The migration to Clevnet allows us to serve our customers better with an expanded collection of popular databases, an augmented foreign materials collection, improved customer service with a VoIP telephone system, and the ability to pick up and return library materials at 105 locations across 12 counties in northeast Ohio. We look forward to providing continued outstanding materials and services.
Read on, Geauga!
